This is the inner side of work and growth.
Career and personal growth counselling isn’t resume help, recruiting or job placement. It’s therapy for the part of work and life a career coach can’t reach: the confidence, the direction, the boundaries and the sense of meaning underneath your goals.
So much of feeling stuck isn’t really about the job. It’s the fear of choosing wrong, the burnout you keep pushing through, or the quiet voice that says you don’t belong. Those are deeper questions of confidence and direction, and they respond well to the right support.
Career and personal growth counselling is evidence-based talk therapy that helps you find direction, work through burnout, quiet self-doubt and grow into the work and life you want.
- Get clear on what you actually want
- Address burnout, boundaries and self-doubt
- Judgment-free, in person or online
What’s been weighing on you about work lately?
Tap anything that sounds familiar. None of these means you’ve failed at work or at life. They’re common, and very workable.
Start with what’s weighing on you.
Tap what sounds familiar, and we’ll suggest a sensible next step.
You’ve noticed 1 thing.
That’s common, and very workable. A free 20-minute consult is a calm way to think it through with someone in your corner.
You’ve noticed 3 things.
That’s a lot to carry. You don’t need to hit a wall to come, and getting clearer often starts with one honest conversation.
Burnout can make every career decision feel impossible. Sometimes rest and recovery need to come first, and we can help you sort out which.

What’s really blocking you?
The thing in the way is rarely the thing we name first. Step through what often sits underneath feeling stuck, and what therapy does with it.
- 1On the surface
“I don’t know what I want.”
- 2UnderneathOften it’s fear of choosing wrong. When every option feels risky, the mind goes blank to protect you from a wrong move. The blankness isn’t the absence of wanting. It’s fear sitting on top of it.
- 3The shift
“I can get clear on my values first, and let the path follow from what matters to me.”
- 1On the surface
“I’m burned out, but I can’t stop.”
- 2UnderneathYour worth isn’t your output. When resting feels unsafe, it’s usually because your value has become tied to how much you produce. So you keep going long past empty, and call it discipline.
- 3The shift
“Rest isn’t failure. A pace I can sustain is what lets the change actually hold.”
- 1On the surface
“I feel like an impostor at work.”
- 2UnderneathCapable people often doubt themselves the most. The more you grow, the more new ground you stand on, and self-doubt rushes in to fill the gap. The feeling is loud, but it isn’t evidence.
- 3The shift
“I can separate the feeling from the facts, so the self-doubt stops driving.”
- 1On the surface
“What does therapy actually do with all this?”
- 2UnderneathWe work on what’s underneath the career question.Instead of forcing a quick answer, you look at the fear, pressure or self-doubt that keeps you stuck, get clear on your values, and turn that clarity into one concrete next step.
- 3The shift
“The next step feels clearer because it’s built on what actually matters to me.”
An illustration of a common pattern, not a real client’s words. Naming what’s underneath is where change starts, and it’s very workable.

Is it the career, or is it burnout?
They often travel together. Burnout can make every decision feel impossible, so we’ll help you work out which pieces are situational and which need rest and recovery first.
Stress & burnout therapyClarity for now, and the roots beneath it.
Career and growth work is most effective when it tackles both the decision in front of you and what’s been getting in the way. Sessions balance the practical with the deeper patterns keeping you stuck, so you leave each one with clearer footing.

What the research says
We’ll always be honest about evidence. The stress, burnout and self-doubt underneath work problems are well studied, but research on career-focused counselling itself is smaller, so here are three honest findings.
In April 2023, about 1 in 5 employed Canadians (21.2%) reported high or very high work-related stress, most often from a heavy workload or from balancing work and personal life.
A review of 36 workplace studies found stress management programs had a medium to large effect overall, and cognitive-behavioural programs consistently did better than other types. Most results were psychological measures rather than physical or workplace ones.
A review of 62 studies found impostor feelings, often called impostor syndrome, were common in men and women and across ages, with rates from 9% to 82% depending on the measure. At the time, no published studies had tested treatments.
Our Registered Psychotherapists do not diagnose or prescribe, and this isn’t job placement, resume help or recruiting. If burnout is affecting your health, it’s worth checking in with your family doctor as well.

Fees and coverageCareer counselling: your questions, answered
Still wondering about something? Ask us in a free consult, or call (905) 553-9507. Phones are answered weekdays 9 am to 5 pm, Saturdays 9 am to 2 pm.
Is this career coaching or therapy?
It is psychotherapy focused on the inner side of work and growth: confidence, direction, burnout and meaning, not resume or job-placement help. You work with a Registered Psychotherapist on what is happening underneath your career and personal goals.
Do I need a referral for career counselling in Vaughan?
No referral is needed. You can book a free 20-minute consultation online at psychotherapyclinic.janeapp.com or call (905) 553-9507. Most people have their first full session within a week.
Can you help with burnout?
Yes. We address the stress, boundaries and patterns behind burnout so the change actually sticks, rather than just pushing you to power through. The aim is a pace and a workload you can sustain.
I do not know what I want to do. Can therapy help?
Yes. We start with your values and strengths and build direction from there, instead of forcing a quick answer. Clarity usually comes from understanding what matters to you, not from a personality quiz.
What about impostor feelings?
Impostor feelings are very common, especially in capable, driven people. We help separate the self-doubt from your actual capability, so the feeling stops running the show at work.
Is it available online across Ontario?
Yes. We offer secure video sessions anywhere in Ontario, plus in-person sessions in Vaughan, Woodbridge and Barrie. Evenings and weekends are available.
How much does it cost and is it covered?
The first 20-minute consultation is free, and individual sessions are $180 for 55 minutes. There is no OHIP coverage, but most private insurance plans cover a portion of services from a Registered Psychotherapist, and we bill Sun Life, Beneva (formerly SSQ) and Green Shield directly. Reduced-fee sessions with select supervised therapists in training are $125 for individual therapy and $175 for couples and family therapy.
What happens in the first session?
A focused conversation about where you feel stuck and what you actually want, ending with a clear next step. You set the direction, and your therapist helps you make sense of it.
How is this different from a career coach?
A career coach usually focuses on the external steps: resumes, interviews, and job search strategy. A Registered Psychotherapist works with the internal side, the fear, perfectionism, or self-doubt that often sits underneath a career problem, so the change you make actually lasts.
Is this a career problem, or burnout?
They often travel together. Burnout can make every career decision feel impossible, and a genuinely wrong-fit career can produce symptoms that look like burnout. We will help you work out which pieces are situational and which need rest and recovery first.
