Real closeness is built on emotional safety, honest communication and trust. When those parts of a relationship come under strain, intimacy tends to strain with them. The distance you feel is often a signal that something underneath needs attention, not a sign that anything is broken.
Difficulty talking about sex and intimacy is incredibly common. Many of us were never taught the words, or grew up learning to feel shame around the subject. So it makes sense if it feels hard to bring up, even with someone you love and trust.
Counselling gives you a calm, confidential place to explore all of this gently, without shame or blame. We welcome people of every orientation, identity and relationship, and we meet you exactly where you are.
Sexuality and intimacy counselling is warm, evidence-based talk therapy for the emotional and relational side of closeness. It helps you understand what has changed, find the words, and reconnect. It is respectful, judgment-free, and you share only what you choose.
Closeness can fade for all kinds of reasons, and none of them mean you are beyond reconnecting. Pick whatever feels closest to home, and see how we would meet it together.
“We share a home and a life, but lately we feel more like roommates than partners.”
Emotional closeness is the foundation of physical intimacy, so we start there.
In sessions we work through this at your pace, with no pressure and no judgment. Talk it through with a therapist, free for 20 minutes.
Whatever has shifted in your intimacy, you are not the first to bring it here, and it can change. All relationships and orientations are welcome.
Talking about intimacy can feel daunting before you start. It does not have to be. Here is exactly how those 55 minutes tend to go.
A warm welcome, a few words on confidentiality, and a clear reminder that you share only what you choose. There is no judgment here, ever.
Together you look at what feels disconnected, what you would like to rebuild, and the emotional and relational threads underneath it, all at your pace.
Your therapist offers a gentle, practical way to start communicating and reconnecting, so you leave with something to build on, not just talk about.
You agree on what you are working toward and one small thing to notice or try before next week.
Intimacy work is most effective when it tends to both the connection between you and the feelings underneath. Your therapist tailors the approach to you.
Our therapists provide counselling for the emotional and relational side of sexuality and intimacy. They do not provide medical treatment, so for physical or sexual-health concerns we encourage seeing a physician too, and we are glad to work alongside your medical providers. InnerSight was founded by Svetlana Antonyshyn, RP, on the belief that care should treat the person, not a label. Every therapist here is a Registered Psychotherapist regulated by the CRPO.
