More than a job decision

This is the inner side of work and growth

Career and personal growth counselling is not resume help, recruiting or job placement. It is therapy for the part of work and life that no career coach can outsource: the confidence, the direction, the boundaries and the sense of meaning underneath your goals. The version of you that shows up to the decision.

So much of feeling stuck is not really about the job at all. It is the fear of choosing wrong, the burnout you keep pushing through, the quiet voice that says you do not belong, or the loss of any clear sense of what you actually want. Those are not career problems. They are human ones, and they respond well to the right support.

In sessions you get clear on what matters to you, work through what has been holding you back, and build the steadiness to move in a direction that fits, at work and in the rest of your life. No pressure, no judgment, just space to think it through with someone in your corner.

In plain words

Career and personal growth counselling is evidence-based talk therapy that helps you find direction, beat burnout, quiet self-doubt and grow into the life and work you want. It is structured, judgment-free, and the clarity and skills are yours to keep.

What is really blocking you?

The thing in the way is rarely the thing we name first. Pick what sounds most like you, and see what often sits underneath it. This is a taste of the work you would do in sessions.

1 · What you tell yourself

“I don’t know what I want.”

2 · What is often underneath

Often it is fear of choosing wrong.

When every option feels risky, the mind goes blank to protect you from a wrong move. The blankness is not the absence of wanting, it is fear sitting on top of it.

3 · What we do with it

“We get clear on your values first, then the path. Direction comes from knowing what matters to you, not from forcing a perfect answer.”

In sessions you work through this around your own situation, until the next step feels clear. Talk it through with a therapist, free for 20 minutes.

What your first session actually looks like

A focused conversation about where you feel stuck and where you want to go. Here is how those 55 minutes tend to flow, and you leave with a clearer next step.

1
Minutes 0 to 10

Settling in

No judgment, no performance. Your therapist welcomes you, explains confidentiality, and makes clear there are no wrong answers here.

2
Minutes 10 to 30

Mapping where you are stuck

Together you look at what is weighing on you, what you have already tried, and what tends to sit underneath the stuckness.

3
Minutes 30 to 50

Finding the thread

You start to name what actually matters to you and where you want to head, so the picture gets clearer instead of more overwhelming.

4
The last 5 minutes

Leaving with a next step

You agree on where to focus next and one concrete step to take before the following session.

How we work

Clarity for now, and the roots beneath it

Career and personal growth work is most effective when it tackles both the decision in front of you and what has been getting in the way. Your therapist tailors the approach to you.

Values & strengths workGet clear on what matters to you and what you do well, so direction comes from the inside out.
Acceptance & Commitment TherapyAn evidence-based approach to act on what you value, even while fear and doubt show up.
Solution-focused coachingPractical, forward-looking work that turns clarity into the next concrete move.
CBT for stress & self-doubtSpot and shift the thoughts, like impostor feelings and pressure, that keep you stuck.

Common questions

Career counselling in Vaughan: your questions, answered

Is this career coaching or therapy?

It is psychotherapy focused on the inner side of work and growth: confidence, direction, burnout and meaning, not resume or job-placement help. You work with a Registered Psychotherapist on what is happening underneath your career and personal goals.

Do I need a referral for career counselling in Vaughan?

No referral is needed. You can book a free 20-minute consultation online at psychotherapyclinic.janeapp.com or call (905) 553-9507. Most people have their first full session within a week.

Can you help with burnout?

Yes. We address the stress, boundaries and patterns behind burnout so the change actually sticks, rather than just pushing you to power through. The aim is a pace and a workload you can sustain.

I do not know what I want to do. Can therapy help?

Yes. We start with your values and strengths and build direction from there, instead of forcing a quick answer. Clarity usually comes from understanding what matters to you, not from a personality quiz.

What about impostor feelings?

Impostor feelings are very common, especially in capable, driven people. We help separate the self-doubt from your actual capability, so the feeling stops running the show at work.

Is it available online across Ontario?

Yes. We offer secure video sessions anywhere in Ontario, plus in-person sessions in Vaughan, Woodbridge and Barrie. Evenings and weekends are available.

How much does it cost and is it covered?

The first 20-minute consultation is free, and individual sessions are $180 for 55 minutes. There is no OHIP coverage, but most private insurance plans cover a portion of services from a Registered Psychotherapist, and reduced-fee options are available.

What happens in the first session?

A focused conversation about where you feel stuck and what you actually want, ending with a clear next step. You set the direction, and your therapist helps you make sense of it.
