You belong here

A group for people who never quite fit the others

Finding the right support matters on the road to recovery. Plenty of people try community groups and walk away feeling lost or disconnected, like the room was for everyone but them. If that sounds familiar, it does not mean you are doing recovery wrong. It may just mean you have not found the right space yet.

Path to Recovery is designed for adults working through substance use, alcohol use or gambling addiction who have found other groups overwhelming, unrelatable, or simply not the right fit. It is an inclusive space created to promote acceptance and belonging, where you can find your footing, make meaningful connections, and gather the understanding you need to carry a successful recovery forward, even after you leave the group.

Our facilitators are Registered Psychotherapists, and part of the work is shining a light on recent research about the brain that helps explain why addiction is so hard to understand and overcome. When it makes sense, it stops feeling like a personal failing.

Group, one-on-one, or both

There is no single right way to recover. Many people pair the group with individual sessions, and the two work well together.

How to join

Getting started is simpler than it feels

An honest note on safety

Path to Recovery offers psychological support, not medical detox. InnerSight is not a medical or detox facility, and Registered Psychotherapists cannot prescribe medication or supervise withdrawal. Withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines in particular can be medically dangerous and needs medical supervision. If stopping or cutting back could be physically unsafe for you, we will help you get medical support first and work alongside your physician, and the group can support you alongside or after that.

Common questions

Your questions about the group, answered

Who is the Path to Recovery group for?

It is for adults working through substance use, alcohol use or gambling addiction, especially anyone who has found other community support groups overwhelming, hard to relate to, or simply not the right fit. If you have felt lost or disconnected in other rooms, this group was created with you in mind.

Do I need to be fully abstinent to join?

We meet you where you are, without pressure or judgment. The group is a welcoming space to find your footing and build understanding, whatever stage of recovery you are at. The best way to see if it fits is a free 20-minute consultation.

Is this medical detox or addiction treatment?

No. We are Registered Psychotherapists, not a medical or detox facility, and we cannot prescribe medication or supervise withdrawal. Withdrawal from alcohol or benzodiazepines in particular can be medically dangerous and needs medical supervision. The group offers psychological support and skills. If you need to stop or cut back on a substance safely, we will help you connect with appropriate medical care first and work alongside your physician, and the group can support you alongside or after that.

Is the group confidential?

Yes. The group is facilitated by Registered Psychotherapists regulated by the CRPO, and confidentiality is part of the foundation, with the standard legal limits explained clearly before you begin. It is an inclusive space built on acceptance and belonging.

How is this different from a traditional support group?

Path to Recovery is therapist-led and built around the specific needs and experiences of its participants. Alongside peer connection, facilitators share current research on the brain that helps explain why addiction is so hard to understand and overcome, so you leave with both support and understanding.

Can I also do individual therapy?

Yes. Many people combine the group with one-on-one addiction counselling, and the two work well together. You can explore individual addiction counselling and decide what fits in your free consultation.

How do I join the group?

If you are interested, email us at info@psychotherapyclinic.ca or call (905) 553-9507, and we will tell you about the current group and answer your questions. You can also book a free 20-minute consultation online to talk it through first.
