How are you feeling? Start there.

Hardly anyone arrives knowing what to call it. Pick the line that sounds closest, or type it in your own words.

Nothing here matches that

Which means the list is too short, not that you are hard to help. Tell us in your own words instead.

Find my match

A starting point, not a label

None of these lines is a diagnosis, and Registered Psychotherapists do not diagnose. They are simply what people say in a first session. Most people match more than one, which is normal, so pick whichever is loudest today. Choosing the wrong one costs nothing.

Where it matters, we say what we are not: we do not prescribe, we are not a medical detox, and we are not lawyers, mediators or custody assessors. Each page says so plainly, and we work alongside your family doctor. Full fees are on our fees and coverage page.

Before you choose anything

Is this list a diagnosis?

No, and it is not meant to be. Registered Psychotherapists do not diagnose. These are plain descriptions of what people bring to a first session, sorted so you can find something useful to read. If you want a diagnosis, your family doctor is the right place to start, and we are glad to work alongside them.

What if more than one of these sounds like me?

That is the normal case rather than the exception. Worry, low mood and strain at home usually travel together, and untangling which came first is part of the work rather than something you need to sort out beforehand. Pick whichever is loudest today.

What if none of them fit?

Then the list is too short, not you. These are common starting points, not the limits of what our therapists work with. A free 20-minute consultation is the fastest way to describe it in your own words and be pointed to the right person.

Do I need a referral before I book?

No. You can book directly at psychotherapyclinic.janeapp.com or call (905) 553-9507. A referral is not required to see a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario. Some insurance plans ask for one before they reimburse, so it is worth checking your own plan.

How much does a session cost?

A 20-minute consultation is free. Individual sessions are $180 for 55 minutes, and couples and family sessions are $280 for 85 minutes. Reduced-fee sessions with supervised therapists in training are $125 individual and $175 for couples and family. There is no OHIP coverage for psychotherapy, though most private insurance plans cover a portion. Full detail sits on our fees and coverage page.

Can I do this online instead of coming in?

Yes. We see clients by secure video anywhere in Ontario, on the same schedule as our offices, including evenings and Saturdays. Many people mix the two, coming in when they can and going online when the week gets busy.

You do not need the right word for it to start.

A free 20-minute conversation is enough to work out what would help and who would suit you. There is no obligation to book a session afterwards.
